This forces me to post my anger on the internet somewhere [20 Dec 2003|01:46am]
Taken from GameSpyPC's explanation of their #5 ranking of Deus Ex: Invisible War in the top 10 games of 2003:

" Deus Ex: Invisible War had the unenviable task of being the follow up to Deus Ex, GameSpy's 2000 Game of the Year, and a title that's often lauded as being one of the best games ever. So how did the team over at Ion Storm Austin respond to the pressure? Simple, they made the game smaller. They removed some of the more cumbersome aspects of Deus Ex's gameplay like ammo management and the skills system, and instead focused on immersing the player in the dystopian world of 2072.

Well, mission accomplished! Deus Ex: Invisible War grabs you from the opening cinematic and just never lets you go. Rather than rely on scripted sequences and tight linear gameplay. DX:IW feels almost completely open. There are almost no restrictions on what you as a player can do. Want to rampage through the world as a gun-toting psychopath? The game allows that. Want to play as the stealthy operative with Machiavellian political skills? The game allows that, too. "

These 2 paragraphs can be summarized thusly: GameSpyPC is a fool.

Sure, this game is immersive and realistic, if you can accept the fact that your flame thrower uses the same kind of ammo as your sniper rifle or shotgun, OR feel that being able to shoot a guard twice in the face without him getting upset is realistic.

Ion Storm sold out like the money-grubbing scumbags they apparently are.

This game is a piece of shit. I'd like to say its only bad because DX1 was so good, but that's really a lie. This game is garbage.

DON'T BUY IT, don't waste your money, and don't give it to someone so undeserving.

Last week, President Bush proposed to make administrative subpoenas a key tool in the war on terrorism and not just to obtain records.

The president said Attorney General John Ashcroft should have the legal authority to order any person who might have information that is relevant . . . in any investigation related to terrorism to submit in secret to being questioned and to turn over any books, papers, documents or electronic data that the government seeks.

Unlike in ordinary criminal investigations, Ashcroft would not need the approval of a grand jury or a judge to order witnesses to appear for questioning.

Jun 25 The Associated Press reports the Los Angeles Dodgers will receive a $500 bill from the San Francisco Giants because Dodgers CL Eric Gagne broke a telephone in the visiting dugout after suffering the defeat Monday, June 23.

Way to go man... show that telephone who's boss.

I hate the RIAA. I just ordered 30 anti-RIAA stickers. I just hate them. They're so corrupt and bastardly. They're like republicans. Hmm, we just got sued for illegally price-fixing cds, and we need some money, time to start suing whoever we catch with mp3s on their computer. Maybe soon they'll stop selling cds at all and just make their money through suing people.

This is old news, but still funny.

"NASA should have been working on a successor to the shuttle long ago, said Max Faget, one of the chief designers of the spacecraft."

If I had that name, I think I would probably AVOID being quoted in a CNN story.

This is a message I got after my recent game against the Pirates in MVP Baseball 2003. I didn't really know you COULD strain your ribcage... I guess those headfirst slides were doing a number on ol' Dave.

Happy birthday to me [20 May 2003|12:39am]
Today (actually yesterday, which ended half an hour ago) is my birthday. I am 21. I did not go out with my friends, or really try to, because its not a huge deal for me as I do not really drink. I did open presents from my girlfriend, parents, sister, and open cards w/ money from my grandparents.

The Loot
From my parents and sister:
GameBoy Advance SP (seen below)
A fan for my room/dorm room
An accessory kit for for the GBA
From my grandparents:
$55
From my loving girlfriend:
MVP Baseball 2003 for PC
A Dodgers shirt
Field of Dreams on DVD
The new issue of PC Gamer

I'm not materialistic, I swear....

We went out to eat at the Texas Roadhouse, where none of us had ever been, and it was some damn good eating. This girl sitting behind us was also 21 today, only had the misfortune of having parents who tell the waitress. It was funny, we heard them singing for a birthday for the 2nd time, but this time like 20 of them come trampling over towards us, and past us, rolling a saddle-stool kinda thing that they made the poor girl sit on while they sang to her. Then later, after dropping my nearly 18 but not 21 year old sister off, we went to the casino, where I somewhat quickly lost $30. Oh well, there was free pop.

yay!

[14 May 2003|01:09am]
The year is over. It ended with a suck. My grades are:

Course: PRIN COM SCI I CS 211 Hours: 2 Grade: A
Course: JAVA CS 212 Hours: 1 Grade: A
Course: JUVENILE JUST LEJA 201 Hours: 3 Grade: A
Course: CRIMINAL PROCED LEJA 312 Hours: 3 Grade: B
Course: U S DEF POL POLS 332 Hours: 3 Grade: A
Course: MODERN POL THEO POLS 382 Hours: 3 Grade: C

These are quite a surprise... I expected the B in LEJA312, and the A in CS211. Other than that, everything was different. The C in POLS382 sucks, the A in POLS332 isn't a complete shock, I thought I missed too many classes to get an A in LEJA 201, and Mosely just flat out gave me an undeserved A in CS212. Go college. I guess the 3.4 GPA from this semester isn't that bad, it only drags my cumulative GPA down to 3.58. And now I'm officially a senior.

Aside from Brody and Sara Jo, half the friends I made this year seem mad at me and/or each other, and its just a bummer. On the other hand, I'm back home where I can hang out with my old friends, so I'm not completely depressed. I wish people could all just calm down and get along with each other. I think people just start to freak out and get all stressed and pissy at the end of the year. What's weird is how calm and relaxed of a person I've become, considering I used to be called a "spaz." Oh well... this is actually a real journal-type entry, how strange.
